The culture of vanilla started in Madagascar started by the end of the 19th century, the plants have been brought from the Reunion island.

For several years, Madagascar was capable of distinguishing itself by the quality of its Bourbon Vanilla used by many renowned chefs. Nowadays, Vanilla is commonly used in daily recipes under different forms going from the pods themselves to the variants such as vanilla sugar or drops of vanilla extract.
